Recurrent aphthous ulcer (RAU) is one of the most common painful oral mucosal conditions affecting a significant proportion of the population. The prevalence of aphthous ulcers is reported to be high worldwide, with studies indicating a prevalence of about 25% globally and approximately 50.3% in India. The condition is characterized by recurrent, painful ulcerations of the oral mucosa which may affect eating, speaking, and overall quality of life. Several predisposing factors such as stress, spicy food intake, gastric disturbances, lack of sleep, mechanical injury, and inadequate water intake have been associated with the occurrence of recurrent aphthous ulcers. The present study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of the homoeopathic medicine Borax Veneta 30C in the management of recurrent aphthous ulcers in patients aged between 10 and 30 years of both sexes. This study was designed as a non-randomized, without control trial using a before and after study method. A total of 45 patients suffering from recurrent aphthous ulcers were selected from the outpatient department of MHMC based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. The study duration was six months and the effectiveness of the remedy was assessed using subjective and objective parameters such as intensity of pain measured through the Visual Analogue Scale, number of ulcers, recurrence of ulcers, and inflammatory signs. After administration of Borax Veneta 30C and follow-up observations, the results showed improvement in 32 patients (71.11%), whereas 13 patients (28.89%) showed no significant improvement. The analysis also indicated that stress was the most common predisposing factor for recurrent aphthous ulcers among the studied cases. The findings suggest that Borax Veneta 30C may be effective in reducing the intensity and recurrence of aphthous ulcers in a considerable number of patients. However, further controlled clinical studies with larger sample sizes are recommended to establish the therapeutic effectiveness of this remedy more conclusively.
